Castries, Saint Lucia: The 2023 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Secondary School 50 Over Cricket Tournament continued on Tuesday, February 28, with two more matches in Saint Lucia. 

Victories were registered for Micoud Secondary over Beanefield Comprehensive Secondary and for Choiseul Secondary over Piaye Secondary.

At the Wenn Playing Field, Micoud Secondary, led by a century from Windward Islands Under 15 player; Cody Fontinelle, completed a 395 run victory over Beanefield Comprehensive.

Batting first, Micoud Secondary amassed the tournament’s highest team score thus far; 422 for 7 in 40 overs, within the stapulated time, with Cody Fontinelle leading the scoring with an magnificent 118, inclusive of 21 fours and two sixes.

Other useful scores came from Seth Rayneau with 63 not out, which included ten fours, Liam Joseph 45, Alexus Charles 30 and Dante Fontinelle 14.

The wicket takers for Beanefield Comprehensive were; Joshua Celestin with 3 for 63 in 8 overs, Nathan Chicot with 2 for 44 in 5 overs and one wicket to Derlan St. Ange. In reply, Beanefield Comprehensive was bowled out for 27 in 9.4 overs.

Doing the damage with the ball for Micoud Secondary were; Elijah Charles with impressive bowling figures of 7 for 18 in 5 overs and Seth Rayneau 3 for 8 in 4.4 overs.

Result: MICOUD SECONDARY DEFEATED BEANEFIELD COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY BY 395 RUNS.

At the Piaye Playing, Choiseul Secondary completed a 257 run victory over Piaye Secondary. Choiseul Secondary batting first made 309 all out in 42.1 overs, with Jeanille Williams making 69, Denzie Jn Paul 47 not out, Jude Joseph 42 and Terry George 18.

The wicket takers for Piaye Secondary were; Omar Downes 3 for 50 in 10 overs, Joshua Monero, 3 for 70 in 10 overs and Jessie Charlemagne 2 for 89 in 10 overs.

In reply, Piaye Secondary was dismissed for 52 in 12 overs, with Hervai Paul making 15. Bowling for Choiseul Secondary, Denzie Jn Paul 4 for 27 in 5 overs, including a ‘hat trick’ the first of the tournament thus far, Christian Peter 3 for 6 in 3 overs and Jude Joseph 2 for 12 in 5 overs. 

RESULT: CHOISEUL SECONDARY DEFEATED PIAYE SECONDARY BY 257 RUNS.

The tournament continues on Wednesday, March 1, with Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary coming up against Patricia D. James Secondary from 9:30 am at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
