Phil Lesh‘s Terrapin Crossroads venue in San Rafael, California hosted its last concert on Sunday. A three-set concert featuring TXR regulars Stu Allen, Lebo (Dan Lebowitz), Reed Mathis, Mookie Siegel and Scott Guberman that ended with a gorgeous version of the Grateful Dead classic “Ripple” was held outdoors on the Backyard Stage in Beach Park to coincide with the second day of a charity garage sale.

Stu Allen & Mars Hotel played what was until this past weekend the last show at Terrapin Crossroads on Sunday, October 31. Phil Lesh and his wife, Jill posted a statement officially announcing the closure a few days later. “We explored all possible options in an attempt to keep Terrapin at its current location, but after carefully considering a number of various partnerships and collaborations, we decided that the best thing for us, and for Terrapin, was to bid farewell – for now,” wrote Phil and Jill as part of their note. “In that spirit, while Terrapin’s time at its current location may be coming to a close, we know that Terrapin Crossroads was never a location – it was a community. We hope to see you all soon, in some form, somewhere down the road.”

Terrapin Crossroads first opened its doors in 2012. All five musicians who performed on the Backyard Stage on Sunday had a long history of playing the venue dating back to its early days. Allen, Lebo, Mathis and Siegel formed the core band for yesterday’s concert with keyboardist Scott Guberman joining the group for two songs in the third set as well as the “Ripple” encore.

While original GD output was represented by “Ripple,” “Just A Little Light,” “Comes A Time” and “Operator,” Sunday’s setlist went well beyond Grateful Dead classics. Covers of Kris Kristofferson’s “Me And Bobby McGee,” Jimmy Cliff’s “Sitting In Limbo,” Paul Simon’s “Graceland,” Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Last Dance With Mary Jane” and Bob Dylan’s “Baby, Let Me Follow You Down” were among songs played yesterday.
