The 11th annual Kids Write 4 Kids contest held by Ripple Foundation, a national youth education charity, is now open for entries. Young writers in grades 4–8 across Canada are encouraged to submit original stories of prose, verse, fiction, and nonfiction for the chance of becoming a published author.
Ivy Wong, founder of Ripple Foundation, has the following tips for young writers:
- End a story right: Develop a literary piece that has a succinct idea, weave it together, and give it a clear sense of closure.
- An idea to follow: Keep on track, and establish one guiding idea.
- Write from the heart: The judging panel can tell when a story has been written from the heart versus with the intent to win.
- Edit, edit, and edit again: Give yourself enough time to perfect the editing process.
- Stay away from trends: Stay far away from current trends to craft something truly authentic and grounded in your own original ideas.
The entries will be judged by a panel comprised of authors, editors, and previous winners. Contest winners will have their creative work published in paperback and as an ebook that will be available for purchase on Amazon, Google Play, iBookstore, and Overdrive. All proceeds from book sales will be donated to the winner’s charity of choice.
The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2023, with the winner to be announced in the summer of 2023.
