Broad Ripple Ave. Closed For Construction

September 15, 2022

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) has begun Phase One of construction on Broad Ripple Avenue from east of the Winthrop Avenue intersection to Guilford Avenue. The Phase One closure will allow the contractor to set stormwater structures in the intersection and along Broad Ripple while containing construction within a roughly one block area. The roadway will remain closed until Phase One completion in December. In the spring, the contractor will return to Broad Ripple Avenue for Phase Two which includes roadway improvements from east of Guilford Avenue to College Avenue.
During Phase One construction, local north/south vehicular traffic will be able to cross Broad Ripple Avenue via Guilford Avenue, while east/west through traffic will be detoured to Kessler Boulevard to reduce vehicular traffic in Broad Ripple Village. All businesses will remain accessible during construction with sidewalks  open along the construction site. For resident, visitors and business owners, Indy DPW has worked with Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA), rideshare providers and delivery services to create a temporary rideshare pickup/dropoff zone and food delivery parking.
The multi-year, $8.4 million project to reduce flooding and improve pedestrian infrastructure along Broad Ripple Avenue includes widened sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps and a multi-use trail from the Monon Trail to Primrose Avenue.
