Blockchain, Web 3.0, Non-Fungible Tokens? The Coming Tech Revolution is Embraced by the Umba Daima Community

Recently, we talked about the Internet of Things and the connectivity between multiple devices. Today the buzzword is BLOCKCHAIN. It’s the base for cryptocurrency and NFTs or Non-Fungible Tokens. Urban myths and maybe even true stories about people making millions seemingly overnight and losing millions because they can’t remember the password or got scammed in a “too good to be true” scenario.

NFTs are a relatively new financial instrument, and they are an investment without any guaranteed long-term return. If you are interested in this financial instrument, you should speak with a licensed financial professional before investing in NFTs or other opportunities. We do not endorse NFTs.

At an Atlanta Business League conference, I heard from a distinguished panel that discussed the uses of BLOCKCHAIN technology for the future. I was impressed by Iris Nevins, a young woman who has created a community called Umba Daima to educate and inform creatives about the power of NFTs.

I asked Nevins to start with the basics and tell us precisely what BLOCKCHAIN means and how it works. She spoke about technology-based transparent, distributive ledger transactions. She also mentions Web 3.0 and the opportunities in this “new” iteration of the internet.

Nevins explains that NFTs (non-fungible tokens) facilitate a way for creatives in our community to create an intellectual property on the BLOCKCHAIN. I ask about plagiarism, and Nevins explains how the BLOCKCHAIN is an avenue for tracking and tackling the challenge of ownership and can even be coded to block or track plagiarism.

I asked Nevins to explain Umba Daima and how and why she started this community. She speaks about how often our community is the last to participate in innovation. Nevins sees BLOCKCHAIN as a revolution in tech, and she wants to collaborate and work with anyone looking to use innovation to close the wealth gap.

Nevins shares that there are no overnight millionaires, but that doesn’t mean we should ignore the coming tech revolution.
