Muted 2022 Ranger Splash Limited Edition Colors Won’t Make A Ripple

Ford resurrected a 1990s favorite last September when it brought back the Splash name as a package on the current midsize Ranger, showcasing the debut on a bright orange truck.

The Splash package is available right through the 2022 model year, but Ford also announced at the time that it would be dropping small runs of Splash Limited Editions throughout the year.

Now three of those new limited editions have been revealed, and they’re very much at the opposite end of the impact spectrum to the original promotional Splash package truck. You might even say that two of them are pretty dull, but at $1,495 apiece, they’re still a fairly inexpensive way to make your Ranger stand out from the next one on the construction site.

The Snow Edition

First to arrive, in spring 2022, and the most numerous, with a 750-unit production run, is the upscale Lariat-based Snow Edition. The paint is called Avalanche, though it looks more like the filthy slushy mess left at the side of the road five days after fresh snowfall. Trim details are picked out in a graphite color, while the nostrils get a coating of body color paint. Being a Lariat, there’s a luxury-themed black leather interior, which in this case is finished with carbon weave stripes and bolsters, plus various helpings of black trim.

The Forest Edition

Of the three new options though, the Ranger Splash Forest Edition is our favorite. Based on the XLT Ranger it gets Forged Green paint, and shoutier red grille nostrils. Inside, you’re treated to ebony cloth seats, again with gray stitching and carbon weave tuxedo stripes and bolsters. Production is limited to 500 units and they should be available in summer 2022.

The Sand Edition

Last to arrive are 500 examples of the Sand Edition, which, like the Forest version, is based on the Ranger XLT. It’s kind of a blend of the previous two packages, mating a subtle Desert Sand paint scheme with the Forest’s red nostrils and cloth interior trim. That one drops in fall 2022.

Would any of these new trims make you want to splash out on a new Ranger? Leave a comment and let us know.
